In August of 2000, Puka Dog opened the doors of the little blue hot dog hut in Kekaha at the base of Waimea Canyon on the island of Kauai. For the next two years Puka Dog took a simple, somewhat forgotten staple food, the “hot-dog” or “sausage,” and completely revolutionized it. From the tropical and beautiful surroundings, Puka Dog began sampling and, eventually concocting, mouth-watering relishes and secret sauces from tropical fruits and plants grown on Kauai. With the special flavor of a choice proprietary sausage or veggie dog nestled in the Puka of a freshly-baked bun, made with all natural ingredients, Puka Dog has become a one-of-a-kind festival of flavor.
In May, 2002, Puka Dog opened in the Poipu Village Shopping Center offering this newly developed Hawaiian Style Hot Dog. Poipu is a favorite spot for vacationers, business travelers, and locals.
In October, 2020, Puka Dog reopened its doors in the new location at Poipu Beach Park inside Brennecke’s Deli. The Puka Dog family is thankful and blessed to be here and to have survived the effects of Covid. It hasn’t been easy, but the Puka Dog family is working diligently; the local support has made it worth every second.

Puka Dog is not represented by any group or individual on the Mainland. If you see Puka Dog’s name in any store or menu, please let us know.
Why is the bread so large?
A Puka Dog bun fully encloses the sausage and incredible sauces and relishes, unlike a regular bun which is served open-faced. In addition, because the Puka Dog bun fully encloses all the ingredients, it can be eaten vertically on the go.
What do I do if I realize that I don’t like the choice I made?
Return your Puka Dog immediately and a new one will be made for you. If you are unsure of what you want to order, please ask for taster-spoon samples while ordering. Puka Dog wants all customers to be totally pleased with their selection.

Our polish sausage is made of pork and beef
What is your veggie dog made of?
Our veggie dog is with non-GMO soy and wheat.
Do you have gluten in any of your products?
Yes, only our bread and veggie dogs contain gluten.
Do any of your products contain dairy products in them?
Yes, the secret sauce contains dairy products. However, the fruit relishes and lilikoi mustard do not contain dairy products.
Do you use corn syrup in any of your products?
